E2CCB Principals’ Forum Fosters Collaboration and Leadership Growth

The Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES (E2CCB) recently concluded the third of its four Principals’ Forum sessions, providing school leaders with an invaluable opportunity to stay updated on key developments and engage in collaborative discussions. The forum features updates from the New York State Department of Education, insights from the latest Science of Reading Symposium, and roundtable discussions designed to help principals share best leadership practices.

John Griesmer, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction, emphasized the importance of these forums.

“Our Principals’ Forum provides a vital space for school leaders to come together, stay informed, and exchange ideas,” he said. “It’s all about fostering collaboration and ensuring that principals have the tools they need to lead their schools effectively.”

This year’s sessions were held on Oct. 15, Jan. 14, and March 25, with a final session scheduled for May 29 at the Hewes Educational Center in Ashville. The forums featured separate time slots for secondary and elementary principals, with secondary principals meeting from 8-11 a.m. and elementary principals from noon to 3 p.m.

Bryna Moritz, Deputy Superintendent and a former principal for the Sherman Central School District, reflected on the importance of the forums, especially from the perspective of someone who has firsthand experience with the challenges of school leadership.

“The solitude that sometimes comes with the role of principal is widely felt. These forums create a space for principals to engage with one another, share their strategies, and discuss innovative ideas that improve instructional abilities in the region,” Moritz said. “The shared experiences and insights from these interactions are key to nurturing the kind of leadership and collaboration that can significantly influence schools.”

The Principals’ Forum continues to serve as a key resource for educational leaders throughout the region, promoting leadership growth and enhancing collaboration.

“This is more than just a meeting — it’s a chance for principals to connect, learn from one another, and walk away with actionable strategies they can apply in their schools,” Griesmer added.
