We are thrilled to announce that the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Distance Learning team has been accepted into the prestigious New York State Virtual Implementation of Teaching and Learning (VITAL) Educator Program. This accomplishment highlights the team’s dedication to advancing virtual and hybrid education and ensuring equitable access to high-quality learning opportunities.
Bryan Olson, Coordinator of Distance Learning, has been selected as the first Cohort Leader. Joining him are Christina McGee and Elizabeth Huson, Distance Learning Specialists, who were recently accepted in the program’s second round of applications.
According to the NYS Education Department, the VITAL Educator Program, led by the New York State Education Department, aims to build a cadre of expert educators capable of transforming teaching and learning through virtual and hybrid modalities. This intensive six-month program focuses on critical areas, including:
- Supporting students with disabilities and English Language Learners.
- Social-emotional learning (SEL) and culturally responsive-sustaining education (CRSE).
- Integrating innovative tools such as AI to enhance instruction.
As participants, Bryan, Christina, and Elizabeth will engage in dynamic online modules, collaborate within Professional Learning Community (PLC) cohorts, and participate in targeted coaching sessions. They will also develop professional learning plans and turnkey training sessions to share their expertise with colleagues across the state.
Congratulations to the Distance Learning team — your dedication to excellence continues to inspire us all!
