Culinary Students Contribute To Empty Bowls Fundraiser

The Culinary Arts program at the Loguidice Educational Center is once again helping to fill some Empty Bowls.

Under the guidance of Chef David Caccamise, students made about 650 chocolate chip cookies that were set to be delivered ahead of Saturday’s fundraiser at Wheelock Early Childhood Center in Fredonia.

“It’s great to once again provide support for such a great cause,” Caccamise said.

Participation in the project by Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES was made possible by a grant from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation.

Hundreds of handmade bowls, many created by local potters, will be available at the Empty Bowls event. All funds donated for the bowls will go to food pantries located in Chautauqua County.

In the past, Caccamise and his Culinary Arts students have made various soups for the fundraiser. This year’s event will feature cookies provided by E2CCB as well as coffee, hot chocolate, and tea.

Caccamise has been participating in the Empty Bowls Project for over 15 years. He and his Career & Technical Education students have volunteered since the fundraiser was held at Barker Commons in Fredonia.

The Empty Bowls fundraiser will be held at Wheelock, 75 Chestnut St., Fredonia, on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
