CTE Students Shine at SkillsUSA Regional Competition

ALFRED STATE — Dozens of area students enrolled in Career & Technical Education programs at Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES recently took part in the SkillsUSA Region I competition at Alfred State College. 

In total, about 800 students participated in 47 different competitions held on both the Alfred and Wellsville campuses. 

SkillsUSA, a partnership between students, teachers, and industry leaders, works to empower students to achieve career success through the development of personal, professional, and technical skills. The Leadership Conference and Skills Olympics give students the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have learned in their respective fields.

The following students from the Ormsby Educational Center competed at Alfred: Tristan Barron, Emily Biron, Sean Clancy, Sierra Reger, Sadie Rogers, Emily Seifert, and Kyle Siepierski of East Aurora Union Free School; Brianna Shavers of Holland Central School; Ryan Brundage of the Iroquois Central School; Daniella Diaz, Megan Lux, Rachel Cappello, Sophia Diaz, and Delorah Mast of Orchard Park Central School; and Nathaniel Conner of Springville-Griffith Institute.

Daniella Diaz took first place in the Job Demo A competition; Megan Lux placed second in the Animal Careers competition; and Delorah Mast placed second in the Commercial Baking competition.

The following students from the LoGuidice Educational Center traveled to the competition: Eric Pryll and Zachary Smith of Brocton Central School; Yair Collazo Bruno of the Dunkirk City School District; Brooke Proper of Fredonia Central School; Samuel Coia, Mackenzie Lee, Michaela Lee, and Marie Beaman of Lake Shore Central School; Tobias Doner of Pine Valley Central School; Nethaniel Parker, Colin Shumaker, and Jacquelyn Flick of Silver Creek Central School; and Lillian Teeter of Westfield Academy and Central School.

Nethaniel Parker placed third in the Welding competition. 

From the Hewes Educational Center, Ethyn Moore of Panama Central School placed second in the Custom Painting and Graphics competition; Mackenzie Andrews of Southwestern Central School placed third in the Job Demonstration Open competition; Sabastion DeJesus of Falconer Central School took first placed in the Restaurant Services competition; Logan Ellsworth of Panama placed second in the Employment Application Process competition; Seth Vaughn of Southwestern placed third in the Carpenter’s Assistant competition; Chloe Stewart of Jamestown Public Schools, Spencer Carlson of Panama, and Alex Caldwell of Bemus Point Central School took first place in the Criminal Justice CSI competition; William Pentheny of Falconer placed third in the Prepared Speech competition; and Timathy White of Clymer Central School placed second in the Job Demonstration competition.

Regional winners will join their peers at the New York State SkillsUSA competition to be held this spring in Syracuse.
