In recognition of their outstanding achievements in Career & Technical Education, 24 students from the Ormsby Educational Center were recently inducted into the National Technical Honor Society.
The induction ceremony took place at East Aurora High School and included friends and family of the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES students.
The inductees from programs in Automotive Technology, Conservation/Natural Resource Management, Construction Technology, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Health Careers, Small/Large Animal Science, and Welding/Metal Fabrication were asked to take the pledge of membership. It was preceded by the lighting of candles representing the attributes of a National Technical Honor Society member: Knowledge, Skill, Honesty, Service, Responsibility, Scholarship, Citizenship, and Leadership.
Paul Hoch, NTHS advisor at Ormsby, became emotional when recognizing the two dozen students being inducted into the local chapter.
“I get to do this for amazing reasons. I get to do it for an amazing group of students,” Hoch said. “They deserve it for their qualities of outstanding character, desire to learn, and commitment to succeed. As a matter of fact, these students showcased their talents in the classroom, school, and community day after day.”
Ormsby Principal Laura Sokol-Scott also congratulated the students and encouraged them to maintain the “standards that you’ve already set forth” in becoming NTHS members.
“You should take great pride in the honor that requires such hard work and dedication to your field,” she said. “Your academic success, as well as the outstanding characteristics, set you apart from your peers and represent a small percentage of your senior class to meet the rigorous criteria.”
Afterward, the new inductees received their certificates, tassels, and stoles from Hoch and Sokol-Scott.
