Empowering coaches, elevating athletes, and ensuring excellence in every game

Our mission is to empower and equip coaches with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to create a safe, supportive, and successful environment for student-athletes. Through comprehensive training, certification, and professional development, we ensure that every coach understands the principles of athletics in education, prioritizes health and safety, and applies effective coaching techniques. We are committed to fostering leadership, enhancing athletic programs, and supporting districts in meeting New York State Education Department requirements, while promoting excellence in sportsmanship and student achievement.

Interscholastic Coaching Services

Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES (E2CCB) provides comprehensive Interscholastic Coaching Services designed to meet the New York State Education Department (NYSED) requirements for all coaches.

To ensure a safe and successful experience for student-athletes, New York State Education Department mandates that all head coaches, assistants, and unpaid volunteers meet specific qualifications, including certifications in First Aid and CPR. These requirements apply to all levels, from varsity to junior high teams.

Coaches must also complete training in coaching philosophy, health sciences, and sport-specific techniques to ensure they are prepared to teach skills, prevent injuries, and uphold the educational values of interschool athletics. Both certified and non-certified individuals can coach, provided they meet the appropriate training and certification standards.

Interscholastic Coaching Coordination
Participation in any of E2CCB’s coaching courses requires a district to first register for the Interscholastic Coaching Services Coordination. This coordination ensures that districts have access to all available coaching courses and resources.

Certified instructors provide CPR/AED instruction following NYSED-approved guidelines. This training equips coaches to be integral parts of their school’s AED implementation plans. Participants receive a certification valid for two years.

Districts can arrange half- or full-day, on-site training sessions or technical assistance tailored to meet NYSED coaching certification requirements or to address current issues related to student-athletes and coaching.

E2CCB offers a 12-hour First Aid Skills and Knowledge course that provides coaches with the ability to recognize and respond to sports injuries. Coaches learn injury prevention, first aid response, and taping procedures. Successful completion of the course results in certification valid for three years.

First Aid Skills and Knowledge (FASK) Update
This 5.5-hour course is designed for coaches with current First Aid certification who need to renew their certification. It provides updates on sports injury procedures and prevention techniques. Coaches must present proof of current certification to enroll.

Health Science Applied to Coaching is a 45-hour course focused on the health-related aspects of coaching. Participants explore key concepts in biology, anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology that are essential to minimizing risks in athletics. The course also delves into the NYSED Athletic Placement Process and the age and maturity considerations of athletes. Through interactive exercises, participants learn to apply these health science principles to their coaching strategies.

Hudl provides a comprehensive video editing and sharing platform that allows coaches and athletes to study plays, create highlight reels, and analyze performance. Games are recorded and posted online within 24 hours, allowing coaches, players, and parents to access footage. This service also helps coaches scout other teams by giving them access to games from across the service.

This service allows districts to register an unlimited number of coaches for Philosophy, Health Science, and Theories and Techniques courses. This option can offer significant cost savings for districts with a large coaching staff.

Concussion Management

The Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES (E2CC BOCES) Board of Education recognizes the serious nature of concussions and head injuries, particularly in student-athletes. To prioritize the health and safety of students, E2CC BOCES has established a comprehensive concussion management policy. This policy outlines the proper evaluation, management, and prevention of concussion injuries, ensuring that students receive the care and support they need for a safe return to academics and athletic activities.
