The Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Alternative Education program is dedicated to providing a flexible and supportive learning environment for students who may struggle in traditional classroom settings. Our program features small class sizes, allowing for personalized attention and individualized instruction tailored to each student’s unique learning style and needs.
Students have access to a wide range of resources, including hands-on learning opportunities, life skills training, and social-emotional support, all aimed at fostering personal growth and academic achievement. Our dedicated team of educators works closely with students to set achievable goals, encouraging them to explore their interests and develop critical thinking skills. Additionally, we offer pathways for credit recovery, vocational training, and preparation for higher education, ensuring that students are equipped for future success. Enrollment
For BOCES placement in Alternative Education, students and their families should contact the home district and discuss a referral.
The home district will then contact Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES. Once BOCES receives a referral packet of information, the family and district staff will be contacted to begin the Intake Process. During the Intake Process, the student’s physical, behavioral, cognitive, social, and prior educational experiences are considered. The Intake Process may include an interview with the student and parents and a school visit.
After the Intake Process is complete, Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES will advise the home district if our programming is appropriate for the student.
Once it is determined that a student will be placed in an Alternative Education program, our administrators will work closely with the student and their family. Together, we will compile a comprehensive educational plan that is tailored to the student’s unique needs and aspirations. This plan will chart a course to meet graduation requirements and personal goals.

W.A.V.E. Virtual Academy
The E2CCB Alternative Education W.A.V.E. Virtual Academy program offers a flexible and innovative online learning environment designed for students seeking an alternative to traditional classroom settings. W.A.V.E. stands for “Wisdom, Achievement, Values, and Engagement,” and our program emphasizes these principles to foster personal and academic growth.
Students in the W.A.V.E. Virtual Academy benefit from a personalized curriculum that accommodates their unique learning styles and paces. With access to a wide range of engaging digital resources, interactive lessons, and real-time support from dedicated educators, students are empowered to take charge of their education. The program also provides opportunities for social-emotional development and life skills training, ensuring a well-rounded approach to education.
